We caught up with Mackenzie from our Melbourne team to find out what coming home for the holiday means to her – from a family game of volleyball to being the resident tree decorator to looking forward to the annual cheesy cauliflower.
What does coming home for the holidays mean to you?
Coming home for the holidays to me means slowing down and heading back to the countryside to enjoy the sunny weather and great food.
What do you do for the holiday season?
Every year my family hosts Christmas at my parents’ house in regional Gippsland.
Is there a particular place in your home that brings back holiday memories?
Definitely the pool at mum and dads – we like to tie up a string and play volleyball on Christmas Day - it’s always a bunch of fun and can get a bit too competitive!
Do you have any special traditions when you return home for the holidays?
Every year my immediate family do a Kris Kringle gift exchange. It’s always so fun to see who you will get – we try keeping it a secret from each other, but it never works!
What’s a holiday memory that brings you the most joy?
I am the resident tree decorator in my house – I just love it. Some years I’m putting up at least three!
What’s on your dining table for the holiday celebrations?
No matter the weather, we always have a roast lunch, with the best cheesy cauliflower and roast potatoes you’ve ever had!
What is one gift you’re excited to give this year and why?
Last year I made homemade limoncello for everyone in my family. I bought little bottles and made personalised labels - It was great to show my appreciation for those who tend to give more then get, through this small gesture. I’m thinking of doing the same this year but homemade chilli oil.
What gift did you choose from the Jardan Holiday Gift Guide? Who is it for and why did you choose it for them?
I chose the gorgeous Softedge Studios large platter in Cornflower for my Aunty Berta (Rebecca) as she is the ultimate host and always goes all out for the family. Some of my best holiday memories is from the magic she would put into this time of year, all the way from decorating her home into a Christmas wonderland, our annual Christmas Car Karaoke videos or hot chocolate workshops. This piece will be the ultimate piece to elevate her events and get togethers.
What is your favourite thing about the holiday season?
It may sound cheesy but the feeling in the air of quietness and excitement before the celebrations. It’s always been my favourite time of year to catch up with loved ones.
